overview

A scaffolding CLI for developers who build client websites over and over — freelancers, agencies and frontend teams. It generates the foundation you rebuild every time: layout, a Coming Soon page, a custom 404, SEO metadata, robots.txt, a sitemap, structured data, a favicon, an accessibility baseline and build config — and then gets out of the way. It is not a website builder; you own the generated source from the moment it lands on disk.

what I built

It started as a single Astro + Tailwind CSS template and now generates Astro, React + Vite or Next.js sites in TypeScript, styled with Tailwind CSS or Bootstrap, optionally with Material UI or Chakra UI and React Router. A compatibility engine resolves the stack and refuses anything it cannot build; each of the 104 supported combinations is generated, installed, typechecked and built in CI before a release. Beyond creating projects, it can upgrade one it generated earlier, and detect and doctor an existing one. The CLI itself is one bundled file with zero runtime dependencies, MIT licensed and published from CI with provenance.

  • detect and doctor are read-only: one reports what an existing project is built with, the other diagnoses what needs attention first
  • Safe to re-run: the same command twice is a no-op, a deleted generated file is restored, and an edited file is replaced only on confirmation
  • --dry-run previews every file as create, restore, modify, conflict or unchanged, with a diff for each conflict
  • SEO written into static HTML at build time, and nothing fabricated: with no production URL configured, the canonical tag, og:url and the sitemap are omitted
  • Deterministic — the same inputs give the same project on any machine, whatever its locale or time zone
  • Atomic generation — files stage into a sibling temp directory and only move into place once every write succeeds, so a failure leaves the target untouched

architecture

A resolver boundary holds all input handling in one place: nothing below it reads flags, prompts, config files or the environment, and detect and doctor go through the same resolver, so they cannot disagree with generation. The resolved context is deep-frozen and planning is pure — it returns a list of file operations, which is what makes --dry-run and the change preview free. Templates are declarative manifests, validated before anything is planned from them. Filesystem writes live only in the executor and processes only in post-step execution; the executor stages into a sibling temp directory before an atomic rename, and stops without writing if a planned file changed while the user was being asked.
